Viper Quick Guide – Abilities, Tips and Tricks for Beginners
Agent Overview
Archetype | Playstyle | Difficulty | Tier List Rank |
---|---|---|---|
Controller | Smoke | Medium | B Tier |
Viper packs a toxic punch. Her kit is unlike any other controllers because of her ability Toxic Stream. This wall can be deployed a long distance allowing her to block off massive areas on a site, rather than the traditional distance a smoke can cover. However, this does mean that generally speaking, Viper is best played only on a few maps and not every map. All of this being said, though, Viper does have a unique ability to bring enemies’ HP low with decay, finish them off with her Snake Bite, and deploy long-range walls to earn your team ultimate agency on a given area of the map.
Strengths

- Viper is the best controller agent for certain maps because of the length of Toxic Stream’s wall.
- She can play post-plant with her Snake Bites, enabling her to clutch in tough situations.
- Viper can enable and disable her smoke abilities at any time with a brief delay, allowing her more direct control over her smokes than other agents in her class.
Weaknesses
- Viper isn’t a very versatile agent. Once she places her Toxic Stream wall she is unable to reposition it for a different purpose.
- Her Toxic Stream wall can only be placed one time, and cannot be moved later in the round. This means if you want to attack a different site, you’ll be doing it without a Viper wall.
- Viper’s utility recharges slowly once used up and is expended twice as fast if her wall and orb are both in use.
Skill Breakdown

Ability 1 (C) – Snake Bite
Equip a chemical launcher. Fire to launch a canister that shatters upon hitting the floor, creating a lingering chemical zone that damages, and marks enemies with vulnerability.
Ability 2 (Q) – Poison Cloud
Equip a gas emitter. Fire to throw the emitter that perpetually remains throughout the round. Re-use the ability to create a toxic gas cloud at the cost of fuel. This ability can be reused more than once and can be picked up to be redeployed.
Signature Ability (E) – Toxic Stream
Equip a gas emitter launcher. Fire to deploy a long line of gas emitters. Reuse the ability to create a tall wall of toxic gas at the cost of fuel. This ability can be reused more than once.
Ultimate Ability (X) – Viper’s Pit
Equip a chemical sprayer. Fire to spray a chemical cloud in all directions around Viper, creating a large cloud that reduces the vision range and maximum health of players inside of it. Decay cannot kill enemy players, but can reduce their health points to 1.
Tips and Tricks
Tip #1 – Playing Outside of the Pit
Viper’s ultimate is a very strong ability that completely blocks vision and causes enemies to suffer decay damage whilst inside it. Viper players are expected to play inside her ultimate and frag any player that steps inside because she has advantages there that her opponents don’t, so a clever play you can do to catch opponents off-guard is to subvert this expectation and play outside of her ultimate during burndown time on spike detonation.
Tip #2 – The Post Plant Snake Bite
Viper’s first two abilities Poison Cloud and Snake Bite can be used together to completely stop anyone from defusing the spike. For this tip, Viper will place her Poison Cloud on the spike after she plants. Then, she’ll retreat to a safe position where she can launch a Snake Bite when an opponent begins defusing the spike. This play can be done with Snake Bites alone but is much more powerful with Poison Cloud because it causes players caught inside to be affected by the Decay effect.
