5 Game-Changing Techniques to Start Using Now

Looking to make some adjustments to your game without completely reinventing yourself? Check out these 5 Game-Changing Techniques to make a quick impact!

Reinventing the wheel regarding your gameplay can be an intimidating undertaking, but you really don’t have to go that far to make a big change. Mixing a few game-changing techniques into your everyday approach can really help you improve significantly, all without having to retrain yourself on your basics and mechanics. In this guide, we’re going to run through 5 game-changing techniques that you can adopt to start stacking up some more Victory Royales.

Stop Over Piece Controlling

Piece controlling is one of the great techniques used to secure eliminations during engagements used by every top-tier Pro in Fortnite. If you do not know what piece control is, it’s essentially claiming the building pieces of your opponent, so you can trap them into a box to have the advantage in the fight.

Many players do not realize that you can actually go too far with piece control, which is referred to as over piece controlling. This is when you try to claim every single wall in the opponent’s box to make sure that they are fully secured within your control, but this leaves you exposed, and they can get some easy shots on you.

The most important thing about piece control is to ensure that you’re protected while claiming builds so that your opponent can’t push any return damage onto you. The best way to accomplish this is with peanut butter edits, low 3 tile edits, or window edits, as these will naturally give you a right-hand peek on your opponent. We’d suggest practicing these techniques in Raider’s Piece Control map until you feel comfortable.

New Reset Setting

Fortnite had recently added a new insane setting called “Auto Confirm Edits”, which is an upgraded version of the previous “Edit on Release” setting. This new setting adds an option to use the original edit on release, use reset on release, or use both. If you’re unfamiliar with the setting, it basically eliminates one step of editing, which is confirming the edit, confirming it automatically when you finish selecting the edit.

This now allows you to reset your edits without confirming them, as it will automatically confirm the reset after you hit the reset button. This is a huge change for controller players specifically, as it previously took quite a while to reset a build compared to keyboard & mouse players.

Best Way to Get Mythic Vaults

The recent seasons have introduced many new items, such as the Mythic Pulse Rife, Havoc Suppressed Assault Rifle, Kata, ODM gear, Legendary Slurp Juices, and the best shotgun in Fortnite, the Mythic Havoc Pump Shotgun. The only way to get the Mythic variant of the shotgun is to get the vault in one of six locations, including POIs such as Mega City, Shattered Slabs, or Brutal Bastion.

There are a few simple techniques to make sure you can claim the vault safely, and the first is simply knowing the drop spot. For example, if you’re dropping at Shattered Slabs, you should know the best way to drop there to get the most chests and have the quickest loot route, as well as the best places to farm materials.

The boss that drops the keycard spawns as soon as the first zone closes, so something that many players in the surrounding areas will do is loot and instantly rotate into the POI’s outskirts. In these POIs, there is a flag that can be claimed, which drops some heals and loot, but few players know that claiming the flag also marks enemies in the entire POI. We suggest claiming the flag with 30 seconds left until the zone closes, and if the coast is clear, eliminating the boss and making your way into the vault. We’d also suggest building a few metal boxes around the vault to prevent anyone from sneaking in.

High Ground Retakes

Do you constantly find yourself on the low ground during build fights, which ultimately forces you to use high-ground techniques to get above the opponent? There are endless amounts of retakes out there, but most of them are useless, unfortunately. Most players use high-ground retakes for style points, leaving themselves exposed in the process.

The first high-ground technique you’ll want to learn is a simple ramp rush but with a small twist. When you have an opponent far away, and you start ramp-rushing at each other, instead of doing 90s to get a layer above, you want to place a ramp straight toward them, then a floor and another ramp out, before you turn, jump, and connect a wall and a stair to the original ramp. This will boost yourself up an extra layer.

The reason some high-ground retakes are bad is that they leave you exposed while you’re in the process, which leaves you open to easy damage. One great and simple move that you can use is always to make sure that you’re protected while doing a retake with a high wall. You can use a high wall from a side jump. during 90s, or even when you’re just ramp-rushing. You always want to place the high wall wherever your opponent is to give you one extra layer of protection. All you’ll need to do is a normal side jump, land on a stair, and then throw up a high wall simultaneously.

Techniques Pro Use That You Don’t

When you watch Fortnite Pros play, do you notice things that they’re doing that you don’t? There’s a reason that these players are Pros, and it’s because they have techniques that separate them from the pack. The first thing you’ll notice Pros do is they W-key in ranked. Honestly speaking, it’s not hard to rank well in the new ranked mode, and you do not need to have a high rank to play tournaments, so we’d suggest you W-Key every game. The reason that Pros always do it in arena and now ranked is to keep their combat skills sharp.

We suggest you drop in at a spot you’re comfortable with but not the hottest drop on the map. Once you’ve looted up and feel strong, start heading to hotter areas and pick out some engagements.

Next, we will suggest again that you pick up the habit of VOD reviewing. This is a huge method to learn from your mistakes, but you can also watch Pros matches to start picking up other strategies that you can adopt. Make sure to take notes as you’re watching those VODs!

Finally, we’re going to suggest you make use of those aim and mechanics training maps that are available out there. The number one we would suggest, which we mentioned earlier, is Raider’s Piece Control map. This map has many scenarios that it takes you through that replicate in-game situations where you’ll need to take protected peeks to secure eliminations.

Another map that Pros use to aim train in Fortnite is Raider’s Aim Training map. They use this map because of the wide array of scenarios it offers that will help you with things like long and short-range tracking, shotgun aim and flicks, and even 1v1 aim duels. Start practicing with these maps frequently, and you’ll see improvements in no time.
