Pathfinder is a unique legend for the Skirmisher role. Similar to Recon legend choices, he can scan Survey Beacons. Unlike most Recon legends, Pathfinder also has a lot of movement abilities packed into his kit, making him a Skirmisher. His tactical ability Grappling Hook is his most iconic ability, allowing Pathfinder to gain momentum fast and make massive positional changes fast. This legend is a staple in Apex Legends, but in the current meta is a bit underwhelming because of the other choices available for both Recon and Skirmisher legends.

Strengths
- Pathfinder’s tactical ability Grappling Hook allows him to make large positional changes on-the-fly.
- His ultimate ability, Zipline Gun, allows his teammates to take the high ground and cross wide openings on the map.
Weaknesses
- Pathfinder’s ultimate ability Zipline Gun is rather slow-moving and should not be used if enemies are in line of sight of this ability.
- He lacks a true identity. He was originally a Recon legend, but unlike other Recon legends, he lacked the information abilities that Bloodhound and Crypto provide. As a Skirmisher, he has movement abilities that are a bit more lackluster than traditional Skirmisher legends like Octane or Wraith.
Skill Breakdown
Class – Skirmisher
Pathfinder is a member of the Skirmisher Class. Skirmisher Class Legends can look at Care Packages to reveal their contents. You can also see what used to be in an already claimed package.
Passive Ability – Insider Knowledge
Pathfinder gets his Ultimate Cooldown by successfully scanning care packages. This can allow Pathfinder to move around the map incredibly quickly. Each scan also removes 10 seconds from his cooldown, and you can do this up to 4 times.
Tactical Ability (Q) – Grappling Hook
Pathfinder can activate this ability to grapple instantly. This ability can be significantly enhanced when used while running. Pathfinder can also grapple his opponents directly, causing them to be locked out of using their weapons.
Ultimate Ability (Z) – Zipline Gun
Pathfinder creates a zipline for anyone to use. This ability has a range of 200 meters. Players on this zipline move 66% faster than on a standard zipline.
Tips and Tricks

Tip #1 – Pathfinder Parkour
Pathfinder’s tactical ability Grappling Hook can be used to gain a massive amount of momentum to move extremely far on the map. You’ll need to learn how to use Apex Legend’s momentum system to do this. For example, if you walk and use Pathfinder’s Grappling Hook on a wall that’s a bit higher than you are, you’ll gain a small boost and grapple off it. But in another example, if you were to run at full speed, slide off of a platform, and then grapple onto a high point close by, you will go much further than you would in the first example. Experiment with this ability, and you will find a whole lot of success.
Tip #2 – The Zipline Jump
Many players struggle to find success with Pathfinder’s ultimate ability Zipline Gun. You may have tried to use this ability, then got shot while Ziplining and downed. The solution to this problem is something called a Zipline Jump. While traveling on a horizontal Zipline, you can jump to gain some verticality and become harder to hit, and then press your interact key again to reattach to the Zipline. This way, you’re not just a flat target moving on a slow Zipline but a difficult-to-hit, much more elusive target.
