Gibraltar Quick Guide – Abilities, Tips and Tricks for Beginners
Legend Overview
Class | Difficulty | Tier List Rank |
---|---|---|
Support | Easy | S Tier |
- Gibraltar is all about supporting and defending his teammates. He’s not really a tank in the traditional sense, but he’s the closest thing to it that Apex has. When appropriately used, Gibraltar is the rock around which a team can attack, regroup, and recover safely.

Strengths
- Gibraltar’s most useful ability is his Dome of Protection or ‘bubble’; a shield that protects from incoming fire, allowing teammates a chance to recover during a firefight, and providing protection when reviving knocked teammates.
- His passive gives him mild tank-like abilities, adding an additional 50 HP to his upper torso and head when aiming down sights. This helps him to stay in the fight longer and win more damage trades.
Weaknesses
- Gibraltar lacks offensive tools and is relatively immobile by comparison with other Legends. This makes him a poor choice for a solo player.
- He has a larger character model which means that players who pilot this agent must have good movement and be evasive during fights.
Skill Breakdown
Class – Support
Gibraltar is a member of the Support Class. This allows him to access special Support Bins, which grant healing and survival items. If you have a member of the Support Class on your team, you can craft expired banners at a replicator.
Passive Ability – Gun Shield
When aiming down sights, Gibraltar deploys a shield worth 50 HP that covers his upper torso and head. The shield can be deactivated, which makes him slightly less visible at long distances.
Tactical Ability (Q) – Dome of Protection
Commonly referred to as a ‘bubble’, the Dome of Protection is a small disc that generates a large shield when thrown on the ground. The shield is impenetrable by bullets, projectiles, and Legend abilities. It has a cooldown of 30s.
Ultimate Ability (Z) – Defensive Bombardment
By tossing a smoke grenade, Gibby marks the location for a mortar strike capable of causing large amounts of damage to any team caught in the strike radius. Can be used very effectively on offense as well as defense, despite the name!
Tips and Tricks

Tip #1 – Don’t Waste the Dome
All Gibraltar players should keep in mind how important it is not to waste their tactical ability Dome of Protection. There are many strong use cases for this ability such as pushing a team, reviving a fallen teammate in the open, blocking grenades, and defending from an enemy push. One thing many newer Gibraltar players forget is that this ability has a very long cooldown of 30 seconds, and the cooldown doesn’t begin refreshing until the Dome disappears. When you’re using this ability, try to make sure that it’s being used for a valuable purpose and not being wasted because you don’t want to find yourself in a spot where you wish you had it.
Tip #2 – Bubble Fighting
Gibraltar’s tactical ability Dome of Protection is an excellent tool for fighting. It can be used to give your team a peek advantage against enemy players, and fighting inside of this ability is commonly referred to as “Bubble Fighting”. For any player who’s picking up Gibraltar, they should look to master the shotguns in the game. The reason for this is that when using a shotgun on the edge of the bubble, you can peek out, quickly shoot your shotgun, and peek back into the bubble for safety. If you want to try bubble fighting out, take some friends to the firing range and practice that way!
