Legend Overview

Crypto has been one of the most powerful Recon legends since his introduction to the game in certain metas. His Surveillance Drone can gather information on enemy positions, scan survey beacons, and even EMP Crypto’s opponents. While his kit has a lot of power built into it, the Surveillance Drone can be very underwhelming if an inexperienced player is piloting it and can easily be destroyed.

Strengths

• When piloted properly, Crypto’s drone can gather an overwhelming amount of information for his team.
• His ultimate Drone EMP is a great tool to soften enemies’ health and slow their movement speed as Crypto’s teammates push in.

Weaknesses

• Crypto requires a high level of skill to play because his drone requires constant micromanagement to offer any value. You also need coordination among your teammates.
• His EMP requires precision in order to be placed; otherwise, it will slow down his own teammates during a push since the slow field has friendly fire.

Skill Breakdown

Class – Recon

Crypto is in the Recon Class. Recon Class Legends can scan the modified survey beacons with his Drone, which reveals the location of all enemy players on the map for 30 seconds.

Passive Ability – Neurolink

Crypto and his teammates see what his Surveillance Drone detects up to a 30-meter distance.

Tactical Ability (Q) – Surveillance Drone

Crypto deploys an aerial drone that can gather information and interact with various objects, including Survey Beacons and Respawn Beacons. This drone has 50 health and goes on cooldown upon destruction. One special feature of this ability is that it can reveal how many enemy squads are in the area by looking at Champion Banners through drone vision.

Ultimate Ability (Z) – Drone EMP

Crypto charges up an EMP from his drone. The blast deals 50 shield damage, breaks enemy traps and slows players caught in its range. This ability has a short activation period and can be canceled if the drone is destroyed.

Tips and Tricks

Tip #1 – EMPing on the Run

After Crypto’s most recent rework, he gained the ability to deploy his drone on the move by tapping his tactical ability key bind. This brought a lot of power, specifically to his ultimate ability Drone EMP. Crypto can deploy his EMP in combat without losing access to his character and weapons. To perform this tip, tap your tactical ability keybind to pull out the drone and press your ultimate ability keybind to activate the EMP. Remember, anyone in the area of this ability will be slowed, including yourself and teammates caught in range, but teammates will not lose shield so you will have an HP advantage in the fight.

Tip #2 – Keeping Tabs on the Competition

Crypto’s drone is a fantastic tool to scout for information that can be used to gather information about enemy positions and scan survey beacons for future zone information. But all Crypto players must know the ability to see how many squads are in the area by flying the drone near Champion Banners. This is a part of his tactical ability Surveillance Drone, which gives you information about how many teams are nearby so you’re never caught off guard. Remember, the information is based on Crypto’s physical position, not the position of his drone.
