Newcastle is one of the newer additions to the game whose entire purpose is to protect his teammates and keep them stable throughout the match. His tactical ability provides on-the-fly cover to allow safer passage through open parts of the map that lack natural cover. On top of that, his ultimate can create a static cover that is difficult for enemies to destroy. This legend is extremely powerful and worth learning, especially if you play with a three-stack.

Strengths

  • Newcastle’s entire kit protects his teammates and gives them advantages during combat engagements. He does a great job at providing on-the-fly cover to keep his team out of harm’s way.
  • Newcastle can revive his teammates very safely when combining his tactical ability Mobile Shield with his passive ability, Retrieve the Wounded.

Weaknesses

  • Newcastle’s ultimate can be destroyed quickly by coordinated enemy teams. Grenades or other explosives can also bypass it.
  • Newcastle’s passive ability can be underwhelming until he finds a high-level Knockdown Shield.

Skill Breakdown

Class – Support

Newcastle is a member of the Support Class. This allows him to access special Support Bins, which grant healing and survival items. If you have a member of the Support Class on your team, you can craft expired banners at a replicator.

Passive Ability – Retrieve the Wounded

Newcastle can drag downed allies as he revives them and protects them with his knockdown shield. The knockdown shield reflects whatever level of knockdown shield Newcastle has equipped.

Tactical Ability (Q) – Mobile Shield

Newcastle throws a drone that projects a moveable energy shield. This shield has an upper and lower half, each containing 500 health points. The shield can be moved easily by pressing the tactical ability key bind again while aiming at the new desired position.

Ultimate Ability (Z) – Castle Wall

Newcastle leaps to a target area slamming down and creating a fortified stronghold. This ability has 9 different segments, each containing 750 health. The front side of this stronghold is electrified and causes a slow effect and 20 damage to any player who approaches it.

Tips and Tricks

Tip #1 – Dragging Teammates to Safety

When playing Newcastle and reviving teammates, you should drag them into safe positions. Because when they are revived, unless you have a gold knockdown shield, they are brought back at low health. The last thing you want to do is revive a teammate only to watch them instantly go down again.

Tip #2 – The Best Offense is a…

Newcastle’s tactical ability Mobile Shield is a great defensive tool, but due to the fact that it’s moveable on the fly, it’s a very strong pushing tool as well. While pushing a team, keep advancing your shield slowly as you approach, and it will cover you through open terrain. Remember that this ability can be easily destroyed, especially if an opposing team is coordinated enough to shoot it together.
