Vex Quick Guide – Abilities, Tips and Tricks for Beginners
Champion At a Glance
Vex is a control mage assassin that specializes in dealing area of effect damage on reset through the use of her Shadow Surge. With all of her abilities inflicting magic damage in large areas, she can control choke points within the map while also drawing herself to enemies with Shadow Surge. Constantly finding low HP targets is essential to thriving on Vex.

Strengths
- Exceptionally good when facing champions with a lot of dashes
- Vex can gap close and burst her targets with Shadow Surge (R), if she kills her target, she gets a reset
- She is excellent at poking and wave clearing at the same time, which gives her a ton of lane pressure
Weaknesses
- Vex has a rough time facing champions that outrange her
- If she misses her Shadow Surge (R) she has a rough time reaching and engaging her opponents
- Vulnerable vs crowd control since it can stop her from shielding herself with Personal Space (W) and fearing her enemies away
Skill Breakdown
Passive Ability – DOOM ‘N GLOOM
Vex periodically becomes empowered, causing her next basic Ability to fear enemies and interrupt dashes. Whenever a nearby enemy dashes, Vex applies a mark that can be consumed for bonus damage, reducing the cooldown of her empowered state.
Q Ability – MISTRAL BOLT
Launch a damaging missile that accelerates mid-flight.
W Ability – PERSONAL SPACE
Gain a shield and damage nearby enemies.
E Ability – LOOMING DARKNESS
Summon a damaging and slowing zone that applies Gloom to enemies.
R (Ultimate) Ability – SHADOW SURGE
Fire a missile that marks an enemy champion. Recast to dash to them and deal damage.
Tips and Tricks
Tip #1 – Peeking Ahead
You can use Vex W PERSONAL SPACE to check fog of war and bushes throughout the jungle. If you press the ability and gain the shield you know an enemy was hit.
Tip #2 – Ranging Your Looming Darkness
Vex E LOOMING DARKNESS when used at short distance will appear and explode faster but when used at further distance will be larger and slower.
Trick #1 – Closing the Gap
Vex players can combine her Q MISTRAL BOLT with flash to close the gap faster and surprise enemies with the burst damage. Also the same thing can be done with her W PERSONAL SPACE.
